Sometimes the challenge isn't finding help — it's that a well-meaning friend or neighbor has become overly involved, in a way that feels controlling rather than supportive.

Naming it directly

A specific, appreciative-but-firm conversation ("I really value your concern, and I need you to check with me before X") usually works better than gradually withdrawing without explanation.

Redirect the energy

If someone wants to help more than you need, suggest a specific, bounded role rather than leaving it open-ended, which is often what led to the overreach in the first place.

Boundaries stated calmly and specifically tend to strengthen a relationship over time, not damage it.
