New Here? Where to Start
SoloSage covers a lot of ground. If you only do four things on your first visit, do these — in order. Each one takes a few minutes and leads naturally to the next.
Start here: your first four steps
- Take the Solo Ager Self-Check — one minute, three questions. It points you to the guide that fits your situation instead of leaving you to guess.
- Read your guide — whichever one the self-check sends you to: Scared of Aging Alone, Preparing Ahead, or Finding Community.
- Open My Planning Progress — a private checklist of 24 planning milestones. Check off what you've already done (you'll be surprised), and come back over the weeks to work through the rest.
- Say hello on the Community Board — you don't need an account, and everyone there is figuring out the same things you are.
As you read, use the "☆ Save this article" button under any article title to build
your own reading list — it's stored privately in your browser, like everything else here.
Prefer to skip the quiz? Choose your own starting point by how today feels:
If you're feeling anxious or overwhelmed right now
Start with Scared of Aging Alone and the "What is a solo ager?" article. You're not behind, and this is more common than it feels.
If you're the planning type and want to get ahead of it
Start with Preparing Ahead, then head straight to Legal & Practical Prep for power of attorney and health care proxy basics.
If loneliness is the main thing you're dealing with
Start with Finding Community and the Community & Loneliness section.
Once you've got a foothold
Use the Care Team Builder to start documenting your support network and key documents in one place, and let My Planning Progress keep track of what's done and what's next — a little at a time, not all at once.
There's no need to read the whole site at once. Most people come back to different sections as their situation changes — your progress and saved articles will be waiting right where you left them.
